Product Description

A weekender has one job: to hold three days of things and still be pleasant to carry at the end of them. The Trailhead is built for exactly that, and it is built to look better after the tenth trip than it did on the first.

The body is a heavy 16 oz cotton canvas in oat, woven tight enough to shed a light shower and stiff enough that the bag holds its silhouette when it is only half full. The weakest points on any soft bag — the bottom corners, the rim, the handle roots — are reinforced in vegetable-tanned leather rather than in more canvas, because leather absorbs the abrasion of being set down on concrete instead of fraying against it. Those corners will darken and scuff; that is their job.

The main opening runs the full width of the top and closes with an antique-finish brass zip that is oversized on purpose. It opens flat, so the bag can be packed like a suitcase rather than stuffed through a slot, and the zip pull is long enough to work with gloves on. Inside there are two slip pockets and one zip pocket, all set high enough that a phone or passport does not end up buried at the bottom.

The base is the part nobody mentions and everybody notices. It is boarded and leather-bound, so the bag stands upright on a station platform instead of slumping, and it carries load down into the corners rather than dragging on the canvas. Carry it by the rolled leather handles, or clip on the detachable webbing strap and wear it across the body when the platform is a long walk away.

At 38 litres it fits a weekend honestly — two changes of clothes, a wash kit, a pair of shoes, a book — and it still fits in an overhead bin.
